Ruth Cant creates exotic portraits with loose lines and tickles of colour often using clothing styles and accessories to determine her subjects for a deep dive into People, Personality & Colour.
Illustration and fashion have always been a passion for Ruth, and drawing portraits is a creative escape when she is not working. Ruth draws with felt tip pens, Tombow textas, diluted acrylic brushes and other tactile media to capture the life of a personality, particularly when they wear fabulous clothes and striking accessories!
“Clothing is my first love and shapes of faces are always a beautiful intrigue to me, so I meld these together. I love to draw people from magazine images and portray their exotic style and personalities in a different light to the photos”
Ruth works as freelance illustrator and graphic designer to support marketing for regional businesses including Warren Chamber Music Festival. She grew up in country NSW on a grazing and cropping property and also drives a 30 tonne chaser bin tractor on the family farm during harvest! Warren Museum and Art Gallery recently exhibited her work along with Tate Luckensmeyer
Ruth will soon venture abroad to pursue career development in creative industries in cities across the UK… this workshop is a very special opportunity to absorb fresh ideas from Ruths world of creative life and work practise and produce inspiring portraiture and drawings
