Explore Impressionist painting

…through the wonderful expressive styles of Monet, Cezanne & other artists …

Impressionist artists frequently depicted buildings in their work, such as Parisian icons and rural structures, capturing urban change. Examples include Monet's Rouen Cathedral, Seurat’s Eiffel Tower and Cezanne’s Maison & Paris Landscape. The Impressionism painting movement influenced architecture by focusing on the effects of light and atmosphere on houses and structures that inspired adaptations and styles influenced by climate.

This immersive program offers an engaging exploration to work through the ideas and innovations of Impressionism. Learn the techniques and identifying styles used by various Impressionist artists while considering the movement’s legacy and enduring popularity. Convey an emotive response through colour and explore these ideas and experiment in a range of techniques using different aspects of light and colour with expressive brush strokes.

This 7 week course offers something for everyone, including artists and teachers who are passionate about learning and keen to expand their understanding of this much loved and transformative art movement. We explore social and cultural contexts that shaped the development of Impressionism in the late nineteenth century making this an ideal starting point for those also looking to deepen their appreciation of art history.

You will be expertly guided through set-by-step instructions and demonstrations to produce exciting visual statements and take home a folio of activity sheets, and a ready-to-hang finished artwork.
